R.E.M. love Facebook

MySpace artists have been hosting full album streams for over a year now, and MTV’s The Leak has been doing it for years (including, right now, the latest album from Panic at the Disco). However, R.E.M. are debuting the first legally available way to hear their entire album Accelerate via the Facebook application iLike, complete with a video introduction by Michael Stipe himself.
iLike is one of dozens of Facebooks applications. It allows users to find concerts in their area (based on artists they’ve already entered as being a fan of), add songs to their profile and more. With reports that Facebook is on its way to replacing MySpace in terms of popularity, these kinds of tactics by musicians may continue.
